Opening Day!!!

Today is our opening day. Subscribers will arrive at the farm between 1pm and 5pm to pickup their veggies. This week we are harvesting Yukon Gold potatoes, basil, cilantro, garlic, beets and maybe some other herbs. The start of the season is always a little light, but be patient, when the summer veggies are in full production, subscribers receive a lot of veggies, and I mean a lot. The only complaint we have ever had, is that we give too much. CSA’s hear that a lot, I’m told….but that’s a good thing as far as I’m concerned. You can always freeze, can or dry the leftovers. It’s wonderful to have summer veggies in winter. I love reaching into the freezer and bringing out a bag of pesto for a quick pasta dinner in December.

This pic was taken less than 2 weeks ago and things have already grown considerably. The lower bed hasn’t been planted yet, but we will today, while we wait for subscribers. This bed is slated to be our experimental bed with the Mel’s Mix from Square Foot Gardening. The water just has to be connected and then we can make our grid and plant purple carrots, orange beets, Easter Egg Radish, more arugula and some edible, lemon marigolds.
