Ok, so today at about 4:30 a fire started in Marble Valley, which is the valley below the farm. Eric was watching the hillside burn with our neighbors before he had to leave for work. (I was already at work.) He said it was about a mile from us. Margi comes home and calls me to tell me it’s raining ashes. I can see the smoke from where I work in El Dorado HIlls. I knew the fire had to be close to home, but didn’t realize how close until after it was out. I watched the smoke and the planes and helicopters from my building’s window, but I wasn’t too concerned about it reaching the farm. Margi took Eric’s place with the neighbors and watched it until it was about out. She said it had come within a half mile of us. Tomorrow I’ll walk over to where I can see what’s left and take pics. These pictures are from the News 10 website. Thank you News 10. Besides Margi and Eric, I got my news from their website.
Looking out my window at work, I began to think, “What would I take if I had to evacuate?” Easy, get the horses, the dogs, and Zoey’s meds. Later I thought, “I should probably find a box and empty the file cabinet to save our important papers”. It’s got me thinking, that’s for sure.
I am so thankful the fire didn’t make it to our house and that no one was hurt. There’s a lesson in here somewhere, and I have to think on it more.
